The DC House Voting Rights Act
I have tried to keep my posts on this blog specifically separated from my personal and professional advocacy efforts, but today I am making an exception. I am posting a link to my guest entry on the Religious Action Center blog about the DC House Voting Rights Act, a bill that the Senate may vote on as early as tomorrow. The bill gives Washington DC a voting member of the House of Representatives. Please take a moment to learn more about it by clicking on the link, and please take the additional step of following the links within the blog to send a letter, or, even better, to call your Senators today, and ask them to vote for this important civil rights legislation! WOOOO DC Vote! I called Voinovich today. :)
i think it is on the floor RIGHT NOW! hallelujah!!
EFro, you inspire me.
Elissa, a wonderful piece. As one who lived 29 yrs in DC and last voted for a senator in 1972, I think, it has taken me some time to get used to the idea that now living in Maine I actually have 2 people to vote for (or against) and to lobby for things like DC Vote. The lack of voting rights makes the so-called capital of the free world in fact the last colony. Thanks...
Congratulations! Your advocacy paid off and we got cloture! Now let's see if we can keep things like DC guns and vouchers off of the bill when it comes up on the floor for passage!
Elyssa -
This is SO YOU! There you are, in a tough fight - and you reach out for your other tough fight. You go Girl. You were the firt person I thought about when we won the cloture vote in the Senate. You should have been there. You were such a force in getting us there. You would be proud too of what JUFJ is doing on the issue. That, too, wouldn't have happened without you. It's great to hear of the progress you are making. Love you. Ann Hoffman
